What has happened to Alex Proyas? Harking back to the ’90s, he coordinated dull, tense bits of science fiction/loathsomeness, similar to The Crow and Dark City, that didn’t really pander to studio or crowd desires. These days, he’s gone in precisely the other way, first with the enjoyment however lopsided Will Smith vehicle I, Robot (which doesn’t share much for all intents and purpose with Asimov, in spite of the title) and now with the Nicolas Cage-featuring Knowing. Totally terrible it ain’t, yet kid, does it battle every once in a while.
